A Winter Tale.
Prologue.
A long time ago in a land far, far, far away where snow covered the grounds and pines and trees grew tall was a magical snow forest,
Well, a lot of it was forest - there were also clearings where villages of the people of the snow valley lived.
They were people like you and I; all of medium height, and all were strong and well built .
One thing that distinguished these people from others were their eyes.
If they left and someone from another village saw them they knew right away where they had come from. Their eyes were a light, hazel color, almost gold, and the babies and children had eyes so light it almost was white. Hair and face were many shapes and colors, and they all had tanned skin.
These were the people of the snow valley.
A little further up, way up in the mountains, in fact, there was another clan of people. They were tall, slim, but still built strong.
They all had long white hair and blue eyes.
They were the snow mountain elves, and they had healing power and magic that people from all over the kingdom came to them; for they never left the mountains, and the few that came did so to receive fortune telling or healing potions or such things only the elves of the mountains knew.
North of the snowy mountains hung the black mountains. Here was where the evil hung like a shadow.
This is where the evil queen Barshea stayed.
She was slowly gathering an army of snow trolls, snow goblins and snow Gribbins, a kind of snake man.
She wanted the kingdom for herself, and wanted to rid it of every white creature she could, and leave only the black.
South lay the frozen waste.
Here the men and woman were ferocious hunters, and were all tall, black-haired, black-eyed hunters.
Their children were taught at birth to use bow and arrow, and were trained hard.
West is the place where the snow valley people lived.
And toward the East is where our story begins.
In the frozen forest pine trees sung, and magic sparkled everywhere, for this was the home of the snow elves and snow fairies.
They took care of the frozen forest and made sure the forest stayed happy and healthy with their magic.
First let’s visit the Snow Elves.
They live in little snow forts on the ground like igloos.
But the funny thing is that they dont have to duck to get inside, for they grow no taller then up to a grown man’s knee, but their size is nothing to how they look. All of them have big, blue, round eyes, and I mean blue - they sparkle like diamonds.
And they all have little noses and slim, small mouths, small faces, slim, small bodies, and all have some sort of shade of hazel for their hair.
They dress in colorful tights and tops with brown boots and pointed hats!
They love to sing and dance around fires made with magic so it does not leave any mark when it is time to put it out. They don’t hunt, but live of the forest fruit and berries.
And their little ones glow with magic, and learned from infant-hood about the forest and how to sing.
In the trees live another type of magic creature The snow fairies also protect the forest, but they do not sing; they dance from tree to tree, spreading sparkles of magic that help the trees grow strong and tall.
They are as small as a thumb, with wings of crystal blue, and eyes that glow with blue crystal light; pale, with blond hair, they radiate magic, and whenever they sing or dance, creatures of the forest gather to watch as the elves sing and the fairies dance. This forest is forbidden to enter by any non-magical creature,or creatures of the dark, and no human is allowed into the forest for fear of contaminating it.
And for the last thousand years it had been at peace until the evil queen appeared and created the black mountain.
Since then, the Elves and fairies have had to watch sadly as their lovely forest began to slowly die.
There was no noticeable sign, but on the outskirts of the forest where the magic was weakest, trees and plants began to turn brown.
Only where the Elves and fairies live is there still magic strong enough to protect everything from dying.
Outside the forest, near the plains, the life has begun to slowly die with famine and frost.
Since it is too cold to plant vegetables, people go hungry and animals die.
So now the fairy and elf elders are going to the edge of the forest to speak to clan chiefs and leaders of villages.
